The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer ready to take the next step in your career? Stantec is seeking a driven and innovative Mechanical Associate to lead our mechanical engineering delivery in our vibrant Plymouth office.

This is an exceptional opportunity to combine your technical mastery with leadership and business development, driving both project success and your professional growth.

Our Plymouth office offers a dynamic base for delivering transformative projects across the UK and beyond. From this location, we’ve played a pivotal role in some of the UK’s most forward-thinking infrastructure and development projects.

Some of our notable achievements include work on large-scale energy transmission projects, such as housing complex conversion equipment for new high-voltage direct current converter stations to transmit emission-free electricity. We also led the refurbishment and new-build extension of the Civic Centre in Trowbridge, modernizing the space while preserving its historical significance. Similarly, the Atlantic Village extension in Bideford showcases our ability to deliver large-scale retail and mixed-use developments, increasing the shopping center’s size by 70 percent.

As a Mechanical Associate, you will be at the forefront of project delivery and team leadership, while actively expanding your business development capabilities. You will lead the mechanical engineering output for our Plymouth team, ensuring the highest standards of design quality, adherence to health and safety regulations, and championing design innovation. This role will also see you engaging directly in securing new projects and nurturing key client relationships.

You will lead the comprehensive delivery of MEP projects and less complex multi-discipline projects, taking full ownership of project outcomes and design accuracy. You will oversee your team's efforts and resources, ensuring the development and delivery of high-quality engineering designs. You will champion and implement design innovation, continuously improving project design and delivery methodologies.

You support and lead the preparation and submission of project bids and cultivate strong client relationships, fostering continuous communication to meet their evolving needs and build long-term partnerships.

ABOUT YOU

You will have substantial experience in Mechanical Engineering and will ideally be a Chartered Engineer. You will also have the following:

  • Leadership: Proven experience in leading engineering projects and managing project teams.
  • Technical Acumen: Deep expertise in MEP design, project delivery workflows, and risk minimisation.
  • Commercial Awareness: Strong understanding of project financials, contract terms, change control, and quality assurance.
