Stantec is currently seeking an Assistant Engineer to join our busy Flood and Water Management team. This position would ideally be based in Reading, London, or Cambridge offices but we could consider other locations for the right candidate. We can offer you a mix of home and office working which will help maintain a good work life balance and effective team working.  We work as a national technical team and so there is an opportunity to work with a wide range of clients and fellow professionals across the UK.

Our work covers a wide range of sectors and technical disciplines and depending on your skills and interests you will be able to engage in projects ranging from policy and modelling based assessments through to the detailed design of flood management and river restoration schemes.

Your main tasks will be providing support to our existing team and developing your role as a consultant delivering a client centred service to our key clients. The successful candidate will be able to take responsibility for their element of the assessment and design process for a range of projects including development schemes, flood risk activity permits, catchment and flood risk management schemes. You will be required to provide support in our production of flood risk assessments, drainage designs for all types and scales of development projects, liaise with the design teams and client representatives. You will attend sites to carry out and/or assist with surveys, liaise with clients/contractors and monitor works as required. You will also have the necessary skills and experience to liaise with a broad range of stakeholders.

You will be a BSc/BEng/Meng/MSc qualified and willing to work towards chartership with a relevant institution ICE/CIWEM.

You will ideally have experience in flood risk and water management in a general sense, but we are particularly interested to talk to you if you have experience of

  • Producing flood risk assessments
  • Design of sustainable drainage systems
  • Hydraulic modelling using Flood Modeller and TUFLOW
  • Drainage modelling using Microdrainage
  • River engineering, restoration/habitat improvement, flood alleviation schemes
